Part 2 – Long Beach – Helicopter to Catalina Island, Queen Mary Hotel,

Original first class only “Observation Bar”

 

Part 3 – Pacific Coast Highway – San Simeon to San Francisco, breathtaking ocean and mountain views. Pictures do not do it justice. If you haven’t done this drive yet, be sure to make plans to do it. Later this week, we’ll take the northern section from Mendocino back down to San Francisco.

 

Part 4 – Hearst Castle – See opulence and wealth at its extreme William Randalph Hearst, born 1862, kicked out of Harvard and given the San Francisco Examiner newspaper by his father along with $650,000 in seed money, WRH built a vast publishing empire and acquired many newspapers, magazines, and properties. He loved antiques and art – outfitting his castle lavishly, importing whole ceilings and church doors and choir pews just for decoration.

 

Part 5 – San Francisco – Wacky Hotel Triton, Dinner at Chez Panisse – the mothership of fresh-food restaurants

 

Part 6 – Wine Country – Vintners Inn, Iron Horse Winery (small farm) for personal tour on making sparkling wines, Farrari-Carrano Winery (major estate) for personal tour, then a CRAZY SCARY passage on a one lane dirt road (Short movie below.)
